Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE)
FAPE is co-producing with Checkerboard Film Foundation a series of profiles to document the creation of site-specific work by American artists that have been commissioned by FAPE for U.S. embassies throughout the world. To date, profiles have been completed on Joel Shapiro (Ottawa, Canada), and Elyn Zimmerman (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania). Currently in production are videos on Ellsworth Kelly (Beijing, China), Dorothea Rockburne (Kingston, Jamaica), Michael Singer (Athens, Greece), and The Gee’s Bend artists. These videos are intended for local television broadcast.
Landmarks in 21st Century American Architecture
Checkerboard is working on a series of six short films focusing on an unusual assortment of inventive projects that has been realized in the United States in the new millennium. The locations and functions of these “Landmarks” vary greatly, as do their architectural expressions. Each architect is providing a tour of his project, offering the viewer the opportunity “to experience the space” through the architect’s observations. An HD DVD will be produced on each “Landmark” which will include three chapters: (1) the approximately 30 minute “walk through”; (2) an interview with the architect in which he discusses his other work; (3) an interview with the project client. The following architects and “landmarks” will be featured:
